Life as a K-State Wildcat is all about being one of the guys. Whether
you’re on or off the course, being a Wildcat golfer means being part of
a brotherhood of teammates and striving to perform at your best.
On the course, the men’s golf team pushes each other towards excellence
and encourages each other through the last shot of every tournament -
embracing the concepts of team golf.
“My number one job is to help the guys get better,” K-State head coach
Tim Norris said. “If I’ve made any promises, it’s that I can help you
with your game. I think I can show all these guys different parts of
the game. It is gratifying when you see that pay off, but that’s what
I’m here for, to make sure that they grow and continue to get better.”
The team is a close-knit unit, and that relationship extends off the
links too. Away from golf, the team spends a lot of time together,
whether it be going to football games or catching a movie, playing
video games, or just hanging out or grabbing a bite to eat. Being a
Wildcat means being part of the brotherhood and one of the guys.
“We spend a lot of time together, it’s not like just a couple hours of
practice every day,” Norris said. “Most of the guys live together,
whether that’s pre-arranged as freshman or as they become upperclassmen
they pair off. These guys are making friends for life and that’s the
nature of golf. Obviously you liked to have guys that mesh well. I want
them to be around the people they want to be around, but I want them to
be around winners. We try to recruit good character kids that are going
to come in here and know their job is to try to excel and they’re going
to be around nine other guys that are doing the same thing – just
trying to get better.
